I finally had a chance to listen to Kendrick Lamar's new album GNX...here are my Late Night Thoughts...
I have long been a Kendrick Lamar fan, I have used his song title in another one of my blog posts. See if you can figure out the title!!! Kendrick's entire album GNX, which he dropped with no warning, no marketing, no commericials...he just dropped this album on us like a bad habit. He has 12 songs on there, just enough to keep my interest and not too many as if he is trying to prove a point. My favorite song on the entire album is....

This song completely caught me off guard. Because I was walking around the store while I was listening to the album on my headphones. I was not holding my phone or looking at the song titles as they played. When this song first comes on it is the artist, the legend Luther Vandross, may he rest in peace. Luther has a beautiful song that was and still is a hit called "If This World Were Mine" If you have not heard it here it is https://youtu.be/RkFIkubuYns?si=-UPJvol5NRQfz-fk
And immediately I thought my phone had done something wierd or wrong. Because phones have a mind of their own now days, but before I could pull the phone out of my back pocket I hear Kendrick Lamar's voice come in. And I was like "OH OK". He immediately changed my world in that two minutes and fifity-eight seconds. The first thing Kenderick says he would change is "I would take your dreams and make them multiply " then he says "I would take your enemies infront of God and introduce them to that light".
Let's just take a moment and breath those two lines into the cells of your body. Could you imagine multiplying your dreams. Your dreams of peace in your home. Your dreams of joy in your heart. Your dreams of luxury. Your dreams of travel. And his next line "I would take your enemies infront of God and introduce them to that light" The way I interpret that is, Kendrick would carry the burden of your enemies for you. Could you imagine someone taking your stress from you. Someone taking your sleepness nights from you. Someone taking your early mornings from you. Someone taking your sadness and pain from you. When you have enemies they effect your very being. Your mental, your physical, your emotional. And to have someone take the burden for you is unimaginable. But the icing on the cake is to bring them before God. Which is what God wants us all to do, here is that scripture LUKE 6:27-28. Have you brought your enemies to God?
In Conclusion If This World Were Mine...
This song "Luther" is truly one of the best songs I have heard in years. I first heard the song around 9 in the morning and at 9pm the same day, I am still listening to the song. It is truly that good. It gives me faith in music, it gives me faith in artistry. You can tell by just this one song that Kenderick Lamar dissect's the English language.
After listening to this song multiple times, it got me to thinking. If this world were mind what would I do. I think the first thing I would do is make sure no child sleeps on the floor any more nor went without food. After that, who knows. My question for you, if this world were yours, what would you do?
Listen to this song here LUTHER
I also love how Kenderick Lamar named the song after the one and only Luther
